IP Address Update

February 24, 2007

It seems that the propagation of our new IP address is moving along. We are now able to access our website and email from home. Some of you may have luck accessing our website. However, I am going to give this a full week until I consider it fully resolved and consider the prwdot.org domain stable once again.

Stay tuned here for further updates.

IP Address Snafu

February 24, 2007

Apparently there was a mixup with IP addresses, so prwdot.org is inaccessible for the time being:

Due to an IP allocation mix up with our upstream vendor, users on IP addresses within range of *.*.253.129-190 will have experienced interruption to service. The IPs were incorrectly assigned to Site5 and were taken from us without warning. Sites assigned to effected IPs have been migrated to a new IP on a different class at this time and the DNS changes have been pushed through though these changes may not be picked up immediately by all site visitors.

Please contact Customer Service if you have any outstanding issues with regards to this incident.

Thank you very much for your patience and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused as a result of this unscheduled, abrupt disruption to your services.

I have done everything I can to try and get prwdot.org set up with the new IP address; however, the change may take up to a week to take effect. If you have any questions, please leave me a comment here. Thanks.

Upcoming Outage

October 30, 2006

Site5 has some planned maintenance coming up in their data center. It will be a 15 minute outage some time during the overnight hours, October 30 through November 3. I’ll let you know if I get any more specific info.

Ridiculous Outage

October 4, 2006

This is ridiculous. prwdot.org has been down since around 5 a.m. today. Site5 is apparently working on restoring one of the disk drives, but it’s taking an awfully long time. For more info, check out the forum thread.

Update

The side was down until 5 p.m. 12 hours of downtime. Yikes! But now prwdot.org is hosted on what is effectively a new server – a new chassis was installed with old disks last week, and this week they replaced the disks, so everything is new now. No excuses…

Sooner rather than later

September 27, 2006

Looks like things are going to be fixed sooner rather than later…

Todd Mitchell
Chief Operating Officer

This machine has fallen offline for the second time today. Rather than waiting for the maintenance tonight, I’m having the machine swapped into a new chassis right now.

ETA is approx. 25 minutes.

Todd

Here’s to hoping that this fixes the problem.

Update at 3:23 p.m.

Well, they’re officially 10 minutes past their ETA. This is unfortunate, as ETAs are usually conservative estimates. So if it’s taking 10 minutes longer than their conservative estimate, either something with a higher priority came up, or they are having even more problems than they anticipated.

Update at 3:56 p.m.

Ok, it’s been about an hour. I guess 25 minutes was more approximate than they thought. Great. Just great.

Site5 Maintenance News

September 27, 2006

If you’ll direct your attention to the right side nav bar, you’ll notice that I have added a widget that displays the latest Site5 maintenance notices. This pulls from an RSS feed generated by their forum, so every time they post a new announcement, it should automatically update in the sidebar on this site. I hope that this will bring some more timely news and information in the occasions where I am unable to post my own updates right away.

Also, I’ve added a link to our Statistics page on SiteUptime. This will show you the uptime for the prwdot.org web server for the past few months. Note that in September it’s particularly bad. I apologize for this, but there is nothing I can do about it (well, except for switching web hosts, which I am always considering as an option).

MySQL Upgrade

September 27, 2006

Just got a notice from Site5 that MySQL is going to be upgraded on all servers. You can read the notice [on the Site5 forum](http://forums.site5.com/showthread.php?p=79337#post79337).

Here are the basics:

Site5 Internet Solutions, Inc. maintenance notification [Planned]:

Date: 10/03/2006 – 10/08/2006
Start time: 22:00 ET / GMT -5
Estimated end time: 06:00 ET / GMT -5

Services/Equipment: Fleet wide
Type of work: Software upgrade
Purpose of work: Upgrade to MySQL 5.0.x

The total downtime per server is supposed to be 15-25 minutes at any point during the above mentioned window, so if you attempt to access prwdot.org during that time, you may experience problems.

Chassis Swap

September 27, 2006

It looks like Site5 is finally taking some serious action. They are going to be swapping out the chassis on the server that prwdot.org is hosting on. See here for the discussion thread in the Site5 forums.

Date: 09/27/2006
Start time: 22:00 ET / GMT -5
Estimated end time: 06:00 ET / GMT -5

Believe it or not…

September 27, 2006

…we have an outage for the fourth day in a row!

We have been down since approximately 5 a.m. EDT. I dispatched a ticket to Site5 at 7:30 a.m., but have not heard back from them yet.

The site was back up as of 9:30 a.m.

Aaaaaand we’re down again

September 26, 2006

This time at 9 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, September 26.

Update
Looks like we’re back up as of 10 a.m. Total downtime was about one hour.

Site5’s response:

Hello,

The server had to be rebooted today and upon reboot and hard drive check was forced by the system, which delayed restart of services for almost an hour.

We apologize for the problems caused by this. We do not expect any further problems with the Moiras server.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Juan R. Pozo
